Depth Psychology

What is Depth Psychology?

The field of Depth Psychology we know today came from the original works of Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud.  Both Jung and Freud sought awareness and examination of all things unconscious.  A Depth approach looks across a wide field of knowing, from direct personal experience to culture and human existence as a whole.  Image, dream, and metaphor are important components in uncovering our complexes and revealing aspects of our existence that are timeless.  These timeless pieces that surround us are what Jung described as archetypes.   This self-examination of the ‘inner and outer’ leads us towards individuation: a process of turning unconscious material into a living reality, a life fully lived.  Depth psychology is non-pathologizing and strength affirming.
